Sometimes life just gets hard. Anybody feel me on that? Even as Christians, God never promised us a perfect life where everything goes according to plan and is sunshine and rainbows all the time. In fact, God said that in this life we would face tribulation, not meaning He is causing it or bringing it upon us, but it happens just as a byproduct of living in a fallen world. The good news is that the verse didn’t end there. He also said BUT. “In this world you will have tribulation, BUT take heart! I have overcome the world.”
Let’s take a quick peek at the Amplified version…because believe it or not this one speaks to me even more.
“In the world, you have tribulation and distress and suffering, BUT (Here it is again, because you know what they say right? What you really believe is after your but… ok back to the verse) BUT be courageous [be confident, be undaunted, be filled with joy]; I have overcome the world.”
Oooo don’t you just LOVE that!! Though the world can be a harsh place, though it may seem dark, bring you to your knees, cause you to shed some tears, experience stress, hardship or despair, God tells us to take heart. He tells us to be courageous! Be confident! Be FILLED with joy! And my all time favorite, be undaunted!!
Courageous means to be brave and unafraid. Undaunted means to not be intimidated or discouraged by difficulty, danger, or disappointment.
Just take that in for a moment. Read that back. Say it out loud. “In the world, I may face tribulation, distress, and suffering BUT in the midst of those things, I will be courageous, undaunted, and brave. I will not be intimidated by the harshness of the world, because my God has already overcome and because of that, I walk in joy and confidence knowing that my answer, my victory, and my peace is at hand.”
I’m preaching to myself here. Lately I so easily find myself intimidated by the unknown of what lies ahead and heavy burdened by difficult/new challenges life is bringing, but are aren’t created to live in that state. Our bodies aren’t created to live in an environment of worry or stress…because those take their toll.
Recently though, someone very special to me sent me a surprise. Like, I don’t even have the words. After a long week of hard work and low sleep/energy in the tank, this surprise arrives. Suddenly the burdens of the world fade as I open it. This person knows better than anyone on the planet of how to make me feel special. As much as I dance partied at the contents haha the gesture itself was an injection of joy into my day. It reminded me that no how intimidating life may seem, God (just like this person) has your back. He will inject joy, strength, rejuvenation, rest, peace, and everything you need into your life at the perfect time to get your perspective back on track.
When we draw on His strength, holding tight to His promises for our life, and remember truths like this, we become empowered to live undaunted in the face of our adversary who roams about seeking whom he may destroy, whose only goal is to steal, kill and destroy.
You are not defenseless today and you are not alone. I pray like Elisha did, that God is able to open your eyes to see that the armies of the living God have your back today. Your victory is at hand, because God has already overcome world.
